Jayco's design and engineering consultant Brian Donat has had a lot of influence on the Jay Smart project and that influence has come primarily from Europe after spending the last three years working there. A few things that make the Jay Smart special is that this rig's center of gravity has been reconfigured by modifying the chassis and extending the hitch A-frame; leaving a hitch weight of 100-150 lbs.
The Jay Smart has four floor plans form 19 to 26 feet long. and weighs in from 2400 to 4100 lbs. Some improvements initiated are a friction pad on the front and back of the hitch. It will lock down tightly to the coupler preventing chucking. Another innovation is a maneuvering system added to the axles to make it easier to move into tight locations. The Jay Smart also has acrylic windows throughout the unit.
