RV Camping insights.

Here are some basics questions that prospective Rv'ers ask...

1. Can you RV on a tight budget?
Yes. Camping on public grounds can be free. Such places as rest stops and even Walmart and some Casinos do accept RV'ers to stay over night free of charge (Its always nice to ask the manager if it is OK, maybe some stores have different policies). Rest stops are not the most ideal given the noise from truckers, but it is a free option. Camping in parks or campgrounds that have low monthly rates are also helpful. Like anything you do, there are things you can cut or or budget into your spending. Comparatively,  RV Camping cost much less than traveling by car. The reason is the tendency to eat out or the expense of a hotel or lodging. On average, RV camping is 50% less expensive than traveling by car. There are also memberships that will help lower camping costs. Signing up to a Good Sam club or KOA can get you an additional 10% off.

2. Are campgrounds easy to find and accessible?
Yes. Campgrounds are fairly plentiful, especially in the Western US. Campgrounds are slightly less prevalent in the East.

3. What are better, private or public campgrounds?
Depending on your tastes each one can have its pluses. However, private campgrounds tend to have full hook-ups (Meaning that you can run everything you need to be comfortable like electric, water sewer; plus have certain amenities like laundry facilities and maybe even a playground for the kids. Private campgrounds also tend to be closer to towns and tourist areas for greater accessibility. Public campgrounds are often located in state/national parks and forests which take you a little farther away from towns and may not have the full hook-ups advantage. However, it will be great scenery! Most all campgrounds private or public now have restrooms and showers.

4. What are membership Campgrounds?
Membership campgrounds are private campgrounds that are paid by annual membership fees and they usually have activities and beautiful grounds. You may never have to fight for a place to park at one of these spots. K& M Resorts is a good example of a Membership campground.

5. Are campgrounds safe and secure?
In general yes, but there are no guarantees. Always be safe and aware of your surroundings.

6. What are some good camping informational resources?
KOA publishes an annual directory of its campgrounds with a road atlas.
AAA publishes an annual Campbook
Some of the best guides to private campgrounds would be Trailer life and Woodalls which you can pick up in most book stores.
